ECOLINE-D
The new ECOLINE-D from S+S Inspection has been designed specifically for use with existing conveyor systems where space is at a premium. The Sesotec GLS coil technology requires a very small metal free zone allowing the length of the unit to be kept to a minimum. The open, hygienic and easily cleaned design is manufactured in welded stainless steel with a bead blasted finish to ensure a long life whilst meeting food industry IFS and GMP requirements. Three standard conveyor widths, 200, 300 & 400 mm, combined with 300 mm aperture height make the ECOLINE-D suitable for a wide range of metal detection applications. The standard unit is supplied with the Sesotec Sensity control unit, which is suitable for detecting ferrous and non-ferrous metals in most packaged and unpackaged products. Where a more sophisticated detection capability is needed, the unit can be specified with the Genius or Primus control units using 2-channel signal evaluation to provide the highest sensitivity to all metals plus product effect compensation and auto-learn functions. The Genius and Primus control units both incorporate self-monitoring facilities, password protected multi-product memory and a new EMC combi-filter to guard against electrical interference.

Jungheinrich ETV C16/20
Jungheinrich unveiled a host of new models At CeMAT 2008, the international materials handling and logistics exhibition held recently in Hanover, Germany. Forklift truck manufacturer Jungheinrich unveil several new additions to its extensive range of equipment, including an upgrade of the popular ETV C16/20 indoor/outdoor reach truck. Thanks to its high ground clearance and superelastic tyres Jungheinrich’s second generation ETV C16/20 reach truck is suitable for work both inside and outside the warehouse or distribution centre during lorry loading and offloading. It features a host of functions designed to improve throughout and, therefore, reduce handling costs. For example the new model has electric 180° steering with a small and quietly operating steering wheel, while Curve Control – Jungheinrich’s successful truck stability system is fitted as standard.

Pegasus 210
The new Pegasus 210, from specialist UK notebook manufacturer rock, has been specifically designed to combat the trials and tribulations associated with being away from the safety of an office desk. A 6-8 hour battery life can provide all day computing with optional additional battery. Weighing in at only 1.4kg it is a featherweight mobile solution. The notebook safeguards hardware and data against the knocks and accidental drops that can quite often occur when on the road. A durable, hardwearing Magnesium Alloy casing provides up to 20x more strength than standard plastic whilst an anti-shock HDD and an anti-shock mounted LCD screen protects data from the rigors of mobile use. The Pegasus 210 also boasts a liquid resistant C-face which protects the touch pad, the keyboard and switches from spillages. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are supplied and 3G HDSPA connectivity is also available as an upgrade. The P210 boasts a Biometric Fingerprint Reader, a secure and reliable authentication device for log-in or to access sensitive information as well as a Trusted Platform Module (TPM 1.2) or ‘Root-of-Trust’, a chain of trust procedures monitoring every step, from pre-boot to OS load, to guard against unauthorized tampering from physical theft of software attack.

The Reee Chair
A South East London furniture manufacturer is turning recycled computer games consoles into eco-friendly furniture. Pli, based in Dulwich, has devised the ‘The Reee Chair’, using recycled computer games console casings to create connected components for the seat and back. Designed and manufactured in the UK, the Reee chair competes with virgin plastic rivals on price and quality – but critically communicates the recycling message in what the company describes as a ‘witty, thought provoking way’. London Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) helped the company with research into the plastics market and with the tooling process for recycled plastics – and the collaboration resulted in Pli winning an £18,000 grant from London Remade’s Enhance Capital Fund for production tooling. Pli Design is also creating sustainable and affordable furniture from high quality and naturally eco friendly products such as wheat straw and bamboo, which can be disassembled at the end of their useful lives for recycling and composting in municipal waste facilities.

FloodWatch from Hanwell
FloodWatch, an innovative new alarm system for alerting maintenance personnel when there is danger of internal flooding is ideal for remote locations, as well as basements, computer rooms and museums, in fact, any location where there may be a danger of flooding and damage to valuable equipment or data.
FloodWatch comprises GSM modem technology and allows up to four directly cabled flood inputs. Having the ability to store up to eight telephone numbers, once water ingress has been detected an SMS alarm message is sent to the first programmed number. If there is no response the other numbers are called in order until a response is received. The delay time for a response is user programmable. The alarm message contains alarm number, alarm information and site name.
For added versatility, an optional radio receiver can be added to allow inputs from wireless flood detectors. This enables a much wider area to be covered without the disruption and expense of the associated wiring.
The FloodWatch units are battery powered, which is user replaceable, with a life expectancy of approximately two years. All set-up is done via the USB interface, using a free and simple software programme.
